Captain Caveman is our new nickname for Nicholas because he points and grunts at whatever he wants instead of trying to say what he wants. Daddy keeps telling him that "we don't speak caveman in this house," but he refuses to listen. He follows directions very well, so we know that he hears well and since he can comprehend what we are telling him, we aren't too worried about this lack of talking. He is also very good at communicating what he wants. "MaMa,"DaDa," "NaNa"(banana), and "Eeye eeye" (ee i ee i 0), are his favorite words at the moment. Hayden's Early Intervention therapists agree that we don't need to be concerned yet. Still, they gave us some tips and a questionairre to guide us so we can determine if his communications skills begin to lag.
Nicholas is doing much better with utensils. He is doing well with the fork and is still pretty messy with the spoon. He will use them for a while, then gets tired and throws them on the floor. His cup ends up there at almost every meal, too. We are trying to get him to say "done" when he is done eating, but he prefers to throw his remaining food on the floor instead. Hope that is a phase that will pass soon. The little turkey knows he's not supposed to do it, but he just gives us a huge grin, ignores our instructions not to do it, and continues to drop his food on the floor. He is such a good boy, it's hard to get mad at him. Since he is a wonderful eater and will eat anything we put in front of him without complaint, I'll let the food on the floor slide.
Just wanted to let you know that the first words from his mouth should be 'GRANDMA'! What a great weekend I had. Will see you Friday with great grandma & pa. more later, love ya, mom
ReplyDeleteWOW! I could have written exactly the same things about Matthew! It sounds like they are exactly the same developmentally. Matthew loves Ring Around the Rosie with his sisters and says "DOW!" when he's ready for everyone to "all fall down" regardless of the proper timing. : )
