How Can it Be?

We can't believe it! Hayden's shunt is fixed and he's still vomiting? He's no longer retching and it's not projectile anymore, but he is still vomiting more than normal. Friday, when his home healthcare nurse, Terri, came by to check on him, he noted that he had a slight temperature, but that is normal after surgery, so she wasn't concerned about that. What was concerning was the absence of bowel sounds. He did have a bowel movement earlier that day, but she was still very concerned and wanted us to keep a close eye on him. If there was trouble with the bowel, it could be the cause of the vomiting. Until he had another bowel, I was going to try to "wake up" his bowel with Pediasure with Fiber and some Milk of Magnesia.

Saturday didn't start off well. No stool and still vomiting. About 1:00pm I was still concerned and called his nurse to come and take a look at him. His fever was down slightly and the bowel was a little more active. She was so concerned about him she called on Easter to check on him. She is rarely concerned about him, so when she is, I know that there is good reason.
