A week and a half ago, Hayden had a follow-up office visit with his retina specialist in Royal Oak, Michigan. We left about 4:15am on Monday to find cops and an ambulance a couple of blocks away from our house. There were too many trees to see what was going on. When we got back from Michigan the next day, we discovered that we had just missed the police shoot and kill a young suicidal guy. There were supposed to be bean bags in the gun, but apparently one gun was loaded with the wrong ammo and shot a plastic round ( I think) instead. How sad.
Our trip started out in heavy rain that lasted for about three hours. Then, it was just light rain through Illinois. Thankfully, by the time we got to Indiana it was clear. This time, we took a detour to South Bend, IN so Tony could see Notre Dame Stadium. Hayden slept for about the first 30 minutes of the drive and then had vomited in the car three times by the time we got to Notre Dame. Tony wanted to take pictures of the stadium, so while he did that, I got out Hayden's feeding tube suppies and was able to get him fed before Tony got back. Luckily, Hayden fell asleep durning his feed. I had an extra few minutes, so I dug out my nail polish and polished my toes. I don't have much time to do this at home and I hate to have unpolished toes. I had planned to do this in the hotel, but I have to make the most of each precious waking minute I have. There is always so much to do and so little time to get things done. Yea! One thing done ahead of schedule. That never happens for me.
Hayden slept for about 45 minutes and then jabbered to us as we drove through Michigan. We finally got to the hotel about 4:30pm. We were hungry and exhausted, so Tony headed to a brewery we discovered on our last trip that was pretty good (Copper Canyon? ). We scarfed down dinner. Then, we realized how old we are getting. Tony went to get dinner at 4:30 and we were too tired to enjoy the free beer from the manager's reception at the hotel. Too tired to enjoy FREE beer??? What is happening to us? There were tornado warnings in MI that night, so once we were comfortable that the severe storms were north of us, we hit the hay at 9:30pm. That's when the thunder and lightning began. We must have been exhausted, we were asleep in a couple of minutes.
