Hayden continued to have seizures throughout the night and did end up vomiting mucus about 2am. In addition to uncharacteristic coughing, he was also very congested. He has never been like this before. We took him to the ER. Even though I knew that his shunt was fine, when you take an kid into the ER with Hayden's symptoms, everyone automatically thinks that it is a shunt malfunction/infection and a shunt series (Head CT and x-rays) is ordered. No one in the ER will listen to me when I tell them that the shunt is fine. I guess it's nice to know for sure. I figured he was dehydrated, so I asked that the NICU (Shawnda and Missy) come down to start his IV. I hate doing that and don't want to offend anyone. However, no one in the ER has ever been able to start his IV, so I don't even let them try anymore. The poor kid has been through enough, why subject him to numerous pokes when the NICU can do it in one poke? All the test came back fine except for one of his blood tests that showed he was dehydrated as I told them I feared he was. While we were waiting to be taken for an EEG, Hayden began having seizures. This spurred them into action to get him to a room ASAP! We rode together on the gurney (for some reason I had to ride on it with him) up to his room. After he was hooked up to the video EEG for a few hours, he did begin having seizures. As much as we hate that he was having them, we were glad that he was having them while on the EEG monitor. With any luck, these seizures will be simple to handle
He sure does have beautiful eyelashes!
ReplyDeleteHayden and Nicholas both have really long eyelashes. Hayden's are so thick due to a side effect of one of his eye drops. Makes you wish you could get a prescription for them : ) Everyone that has seen him at this hospital this week has commented on how beautiful they are. Why do boys get the great lashes?
