Knee Immobilizers

Today, Hayden had an appointment with his physiatrist (Dr. Deshpande) at Gillette Children's Hospital in St. Paul, MN. While I was checking Hayden in, he vomited all over himself and Tony. Luckily, daddy was smart and packed a change of clothes for Hayden. Once everyone was all cleaned up we headed off to our appointment. The appointment went well. Dr. Deshpande noted that Hayden's left hand and heel cords did seem to be more loose now thanks to the thumb splint and the ankle braces. Unfortunately, his hamstings have gotten tighter. A problem if he want to walk someday. So, she sent us down the hall to get some knee immobilizers that will keep his legs straight to lengthen his hamstrings. To our shock, Hayden size was in stock. It was cut down to fit and we were sent on our way. Gillette is a great place and has quite the system to get everyone taken care of so efficeintly. It's going to be quite a project to gear the poor kid up for bed. Not counting his medicine, we have to put on both ankle braces, both knee braces, and a thumb split. Should be interesting to see if he can get any sleep in all of this gear.

We arrived home at 7:30pm. Shortly, after arriving, Hayden vomited more mucus and, for the first time, bile. Which really wasn't a surprise since he ate only a small breakfast and refused feeds the rest of the day. About an hour later, I was able to squeeze 2 oz of Pedialite down him with the Haberman Feeder. It stayed down, but for the first time, Hayden was coughing, gagging, and having the dry heaves. He also began having the involuntary jerking movements we think are seizures. When his doctors get into the office on Tuesday morning, we are heading to the ER.
