The boy's pediatrician appt went well--no blood work and no shots--so we were all happy. As always, Hayden enjoyed grabbing and kicking the paper on the exam table. He absolutely loves that sound. While Hayden was having a great time on the table, Nicholas walks up to it and says,"I dee bro." "I see bro," Tony and I said in unison with astonishment. When did Captain Caveman learn to say a sentence???? Of course we tried to get him to say it again, but to no avail. He is trying to say a few things. He has now added "mah (more)."
Anyway, the appt went well. Sounds like they will start plotting Nicholas on the "regular" growth chart and not the very low birth weight chart. What a big boy! It would be nice if Nicholas weighed more, but she is not concerned about him. He is almost 22 lbs now. Guess that means extra ice cream this summer...YEA! Nick is doing great developmentally. No worries for him at this point. Hayden has been to her office a couple of times since our 18 month appointment, so she made sure she was up to date on everything and said that she was happy with the volume of food he is getting right now. Meaning that it is enough calories for him to keep growing on. He will have to gain a couple more pounds before we have to make an increase. With any luck, we'll be able to encourage him to take more solid foods before then so we don't really have to increase his fluids. He is still vomiting twice a day, so I am all for increasing the solids before the liquids in hopes that the vomiting is just reflux and that more solids will help decrease/stop vomiting. For now, we are still supposed to, in her terms, obsess
about Hayden's food. She didn't provide any more insight as to why Hayden's vomit contains so much mucus. We'll readdress the mucus issue once we are more comfortable that the seizures are gone.
