Yesterday, Nicholas met his new friend, Brandi, the speech pathologist that came to evaluate him. I explained to him that she was there just for him to play with and it was brother's turn to "watch." As with all bags of toys that therapists bring to our home, Nick was immediately exploring the contents of the bag. He and Brandi spent most of the time playing with the barn and all of the farm animals. Nick had a lot of fun flipping the animals off of the bed in the loft of the barn onto the floor below. Not really sure why the bed was made that way, but it really entertained Nicholas, so someone knew what he/she was doing. He did say "neigh" clearly and had his normal Nicholas chatter that we can't decipher for certain. He had to play with everything she brought (puzzles, Mr. Potato Head), but he was most interested in the barn. Brandi did say that the animals sounds are typically among the first things said. It didn't take him long to get over his shyness and Nick introduced her to some of his toys such as his riding zebra and an activity table. Brandi didn't say much about where she thought Nick is at, but she did say that it is great that he is repeating us even if what he says we can't understand and that at his age she wouldn't expect to understand much of what he says. She did also say that it is not uncommon when one twin doesn't speak (Hayden) for the other twin to not speak very much. She set up a couple more appointments to see Nicholas, I am guessing for a more comprehensive evaluation. Brandi will probably start working with Hayden soon according to the social worker from Early Access, so Nicholas may not have Brandi to himself for long.
