Fun with Friends

Friday night Tony and I went to the state fair. Boy, was it hot! We arrived about 4pm. We only had to park about 4 blocks away, so that was nice. We were both starving before we got there, so our first mission was food. As always, we shared everything we ate hoping to save a little money that way. It's so easy to spend $100 without even trying. We started off with a Gyro....mmmm. The pork chop on a stick wasn't very good. The Gizmo (Italian Sausage sandwich) was also very good. Of course, Tony would never leave with out a huge bag of Jr. Donuts. So, we grabbed them and some cotton candy for Hayden on the way out. We were hoping that it wouldn't resemble food in any way so that maybe Hayden would eat it. It dissolves fast enough so we were hoping it would disappear before he had a chance to gag on it.

We met up with some friends at a favorite spot for people watching and for listening to some good country bands. One group of friends had just left us to go home when Tony went in search of another group of his friends that couldn't find us. After I got out of the building, I tried calling and texting Tony but I couldn't get in touch with him. So, I called my friend, Debbie, who was supposed to meet us later to tell her what happened and to meet up with her until I could find Tony to determine our new plan of action. I finally found her and we had a few minutes to talk before I was able to get a hold of Tony and he met up with us. He didn't have any luck finding his friends, so he gave them one more call and we met up with them. We talked for about an hour before we decided that we were ready to go home. Can you believe it? We were home in time for the 10 o'clock news. Man, we're getting old!

The next day we met our friends that we spent time with at the fair for a get together at another friend's house. We were able to spend time with friends that live in Vegas and some others that we rarely see. Nicholas finally had a chance to play with another little boy close to his age. They didn't do a lot of "playing" together, but it was really cute to see that Nicholas is such a sweet boy that he wants to share with others, not just his family. He always knows just how to make us proud. Nicholas also learned a new word that night. The boys were playing with a farm animals puzzle with one of the ladies there. She was going over all the names of the animals and the sounds they make. She held up the horse and said, "neigh." Wouldn't you know it, Nicholas repeated "neigh" perfectly. Guess talking to mom and dad isn't exciting enough to elicit new words. We recently found out that at his age he should have 50 words and a good spontaneous vocabulary. So, the Early Access social worker is making a referral for him to be evaluated by a speech pathologist. I don't imagine he'll need much therapy. He just needs a jump start.
